Autumn Clegg, Ed.D., OTR

Autumn is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis where she received a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy, having previously earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Drury University in Missouri.

She has clinical experience in adult neurorehabilitation in the areas of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular injuries and spinal cord injuries.  She currently is the OTR in the multidisciplinary ALS clinic at UT Health San Antonio with the Department of Neurology.

She is responsible for the coordination of clinical fieldwork activities and doctoral capstone experience in the occupational therapy program.

    Over a 5-year period, 32 MOT students were competitively selected as scholars and received additional instruction and professional development for working with children and their families from under-served areas. Additionally, 40 community OTs were provided with training in the supervision of MOT students as a means to increase the number of community OTs who are willing to supervise OT students on their required clinical rotations.

    Funding Agency Institute for Integration of Medicine Title A Multidisciplinary Education and Practice Outreach for an Underserved ALS Community Status Complete Period 10/2016 – 8/2017 Role Principal Investigator Grant Detail The purpose of this pilot project was to examine the outcomes of a continuing education program about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for healthcare professionals including nursing, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, nutrition, respiratory care, and social work in the Rio Grande Valley and the feasibility of conducting a multidisciplinary ALS clinic in the Rio Grande Valley for persons with ALS (PALS) that do not attend a multidisciplinary clinic. A pre-test/post-test design was utilized to examine the change in participants? cognitive knowledge about ALS following the Continuing Education program. This project was a collaboration between UT Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Department of Occupational Therapy and Department of Neurology and the ALS Association Texas Chapter.
    As a result of this grant and project, an ALS clinic was developed in the Rio Grande Valley.
